SILK CARE FAQ

1. What detergent should I choose for washing silk?

100% silk is as similar to human hair as possible, which is why conventional chemical detergents can damage the fabric - silk will lose its luster and dense, even texture. In addition, silk is a 100% natural biopolymer fiber based on fibroin, a structural protein that ensures its strength and smoothness.

That's why it's important to avoid products with enzymes (proteases, lipases), alcohol, and bleaches, as they destroy the protein structure of the fabric, just like wool. The best choice for care is special detergents for silk with a neutral pH, mild natural shampoos or soaps without aggressive ingredients.

Tip! We have a delicate wash shampoo Silky Way in our range, which is specially designed for silk and helps all our products to maintain their proper and aesthetic appearance for as long as possible.

2. What is the dosage of the Silky Way delicate wash shampoo?

Silky Way is an organic silk shampoo that is sulfate and paraben free, and is completely natural and hypoallergenic.

3. How do I wash silk garments if I don't have a silk shampoo?

MOLODO silk can be machine washed, but we recommend hand washing. Before washing, dissolve the detergent in cool water (30°C) and then soak the garment.

To enhance the shine of the silk, after washing, you can rinse the product in cold water with 9% vinegar (5 tablespoons of vinegar per 10 liters of water).

Water temperature for washing silk

Wash type Recommended water temperature
Hand wash 30°C (not to exceed 40°C)
Machine wash Up to 30°C (delicate cycle)

Warnings! Do not wash silk in hot water, as the temperature will cause it to lose its softness. We also do not recommend washing and drying accessories of different colors together.

4. How do I dry silk items correctly?

Lay the item out on a flat surface (on a dry towel or a special drying net). This will help to maintain the shape of the fabric and avoid stretching.

Important warnings

  • Do not tumble dry, as high temperatures and rapid rotation can damage the fibers.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, as ultraviolet light destroys the structure of protein fibers and can change the color of the fabric.
  • Do not hang the silk product on a hanger while it is drying, as the damp fabric may deform.

5. How to iron silk garments correctly?

- Iron only from the inside out.

Silk is a delicate fabric, so iron only from the wrong side to avoid damaging the shiny surface.

- Select the best temperature setting.

Choose the lowest temperature (70-90°C) or a setting for delicate fabrics and silk. If your iron does not have a suitable setting, use a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the silk for extra protection.

- Steaming is the best option.

The best way to smooth silk without risks is with a steamer. It gently smoothes the fibers without overheating or creasing.

- Do not moisten silk unnecessarily.

Do not wet the wrinkled areas with water, as this may leave water stains. If you do, don't worry, they will disappear after soaking in clean water.

- Don't wait until silk is completely dry to iron it.

Silk smoothes best when it is still slightly damp after washing. Avoid over-drying before ironing.
